Detox and Travel
I confess it's been too long since my last post. I found that it is much too difficult to find time for myself much less sit and type. Also it takes me way too long to write what I want to say because I write and edit and then edit some more. Last time I attempted a post, I didn't like what I'd written so I closed the computer and went to bed Anyway...
I had intended to journal my way through my detox but that hasn't happened so let me give you a couple of titles of posts that I intended to write.
"Detox is Expensive" or "How much did my groceries cost???"
"Are you sure all this fiber is good for me?"
"Detoxing in Dallas"
"Detox or Donut?"
"Fruit or French Fries?"
Maybe someday I'll get around to writing on those topics. On second thought, probably not.
So on to the topic for today...detox and travel. I had scheduled a trip to Savannah for Monday, Sept 17 about a month back but had forgotten to get my travel orders done so I wasn't sure I was going to be making it. It must have been meant to be because everything fell into place for the trip. I was able to get a flight, the travel orders got done and most importantly, Jim said it was okay since it was just an overnight. As soon as everything was confirmed, I wondered how, if at all, I was going to pull off the detox while traveling. Also, my former boss's wife owns a Thai restaurant and I immediately started dreaming about her food....spring rolls, crunchy noodles, Thai basil chicken, John's famous cheescake....I could hardly concentrate. I told my friend when I saw her Friday that I would be cheating on Monday.
Monday came and I got up too early for my tastes to get my plane. I nearly missed it; if Jim hadn't driven I would have missed it for certain. I intended to bring my Granny Smith apples and almonds for breakfast, but forgot. So
needless to say when lunch came around I was starved! I actually made a good choice for lunch despite my hunger. I had a spinach salad with avocado, walnuts, roasted tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side (I had to ask them to leave off the bleu cheese crumbles and bacon, though). Dinner, on the other hand, was another story.
I did make a good drink choice - decaf green tea but the good choices ended there. I had spring rolls for an appetizer, cashew chicken and rice for the entree and cheesecake for dessert. Strangely though I was not stuffed nor did I feel like I had overdone it. I would have thought after limiting my diet so much that I would have been sick but not so. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as I normally would have because I came down with a sore throat. Throughout the day, I could feel my throat getting sore. By the end of my meal, I could hardly swallow. Coming home on the plane was awful! My ears felt like they were going to explode. Needless to say, I wanted to go home but couldn't because of a meeting with the Colonel (one does NOT just skip meetings with the COL). I thought maybe a "good" breakfast would help so we stopped at IHOP on the way to work. The french toast with strawberries and whipped cream that I ate were good but I couldn't help but feel that I blew the whole diet again for just a good meal and not a great one like the Thai place. Travel and detox is possible; you just have to plan better and commit to staying on it.
