Finding God When You Need Him Most
I was sitting at my desk when a co-worker came and asked me to look over some contract language (he'd actually asked me several days earlier and he finally had to get me at my desk because I couldn't seem to get to it). Casting Crowns was playing in the background...I never really thought much about it but while I was reading I noticed out of the corner of my eye that he was looking at something over my phone. When I had finished, he mentioned the quote I'd put up there...he said it was a good quote and could he photocopy it. Of course, I pulled the pins out and handed it to him.
The quote was one from Chip Ingram from the Bible series, Living on the Edge. He says, "If you think you can experience the presence of God without being a person of His Word, you are mistaken. God does not reveal Himself in a vacuum. His Words are Life. When you hurt, open His Word and read and cry out in desperation and I guarantee you He will speak to you. ... The works of the Lord are in the scripture.”
I kept that quote for several reasons. First God led me to this series on Finding God When You Need Him Most at the very time that I was hurting the most. I realized that what was missing most in my life was not the friendship that I believed to be lost but my being in His Word. And when I concentrated on repairing the relationship with Him, I was more able to handle the struggles that I was having. Second, as a reminder to get in the Word daily because it is daily that I need reminder to set-apart time for Him.
I confess that it is not easy being a person of His Word. I wish I could say otherwise...
